O'Hara Corporation has been in the maritime industry since 1907. Our company has its roots in Boston where our founder, Francis J. O’Hara started buying and selling fish and lobster. Later, owning and operating fishing boats was the primary focus of the company for many years. During the first half of the twentieth century the business spread from Boston to the Maine towns of Portland, Eastport, and Rockland. After riding the crests and troughs of the fish business for a hundred years, the company's headquarters was established in Rockland.
The ever changing face of the fish business has moved most of the O'Hara fishing fleet to the West Coast where it participates in the Alaska offshore groundfish fishery. The company still maintains its presence in the East Coast fishery with 12 boats in the scallop fishery and 2 in the Maine herring business for lobster bait.
The Rockland facility has undergone major changes over the last twenty years. The town has made the transformation from being one of the top fishing ports in the United States to being a major tourist hub for mid-coast Maine. We adapted and opened a small commercial and recreational boat yard which has grown into an 85 slip marina complete with 75 and 50 ton travelifts, 30-ton crane and a host of services tailored to the area. O'Hara Corporation has been at the vanguard of this movement and has developed a substantial portion of the Rockland waterfront into its full service marina and lobster bait facility.
